While the year is winding down, we still have significant learning through some very special activities that await us. Please encourage your child to maintain healthy eating, sleeping, and attendance to foster a positive end of the year. Teachers work diligently to plan special events, which your children will fondly remember for years to come. Please review all correspondence from your child’s classroom teacher which will provide specific details regarding any special events. I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher as you develop questions regarding end of the school year logistics.
Class Placement Information: As we conclude the school year, we look forward to having your students return to us next year. Please note that, while we do not accept parent requests for specific teachers, we do value your insight into your child’s school experience. Should you have information that you wish to share regarding specific strengths and needs, please complete a form in the office. Our fabulous staff will begin placement conversations this spring, however, we will not post class lists until mid-August. If you have questions regarding the placement process, please contact me directly.
Prevent Summer Slide: Every fall we have a large portion of students who slide in their reading abilities over the summer. We coin this term, “summer slide” and it describes the learning loss over the summer. Children who do not have access to reading, can lose up to 2 months of reading achievement during the summer. Each summer slide adds up, and can ultimately impact a child’s school experience. You can help your child prevent summer slide, by visiting the public library and giving your child access to books. Children who read, receive the most gains in reading achievement including reading comprehension, writing styles, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar development. Even small steps are beneficial, so please help your child be successful by encouraging reading! “Research taken from www.cde.state.co.us/cdelib/summerslide
