What was discussed and reviewed

State Assessment Results: Dr. Laurie Rossback, Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, reported on the 2026 state assessment results for K-12 grade CMAS and PSAT/SAT. DSD students are growing and making progress in all subject areas and now rank in the top 11% of all 178 school districts in Colorado.

Consent Agendas: Board members approved the Board and Superintendent Consent Agendas, which included HR consent, Adjunct and Educational Support Professionals updates, as well as the August and September 2026 meeting minutes.
School Consolidation: Board members voted to approve the district’s revised recommendation to consolidate Sunnyside Elementary School. Sunnyside Elementary School students will move into the new Three Springs school for the 2028-29 school year.
Monitoring Reports: Board members accepted the monitoring reports from the Superintendent for OE-11 (Operational Expectation 11 — Facilities) and OE-8 (Operational Expectation 8 —Communication With and Support for the Board).
Results Policy Reports: Board members found Reasonable Progress in the 2025-26 school year Results Policy reports (RP-1 — College and Career Readiness, RP-2 — Academic Achievement, RP-3 — Social and Emotional Learning, and RP-4 — Portrait of a Graduate).
Workforce Housing: Board members approved procedurals for the signing of a contract for Workforce Housing Phase 2 at The Homestead townhome development.
Graduation Requirements: Board members accepted the district's graduation requirements, aligning and updating published literature in policy.
Funding Resolution: Board members reviewed the Board's support of a Resolution for Proposition NN to increase school funding and K-12 educator salaries, which will appear on the November 2026 ballot.

Student Members: Newly appointed 2026-27 Student Board Members Bettie Stivers, Coulee Fox, Pierson Spain, Lyla Manansala, and Isabella Lecuna were introduced to the community and took their official oath of office.
Public Participation: No community members signed up for public participation.
Outdoor Learning: Board members received a full update on the incredible progress and activities at DSD's SOIL Outdoor Learning Lab (2900 Mesa Ave., on the Riverview Elementary School campus).
Staff Appreciation: Members of the Board expressed their appreciation to the district’s administrative staff with handwritten cards and dessert.

Work Session: A Board Work Session will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Miller Middle School (2608 Junction St.).
Regular Meeting: A Regular Board Meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Impact Career Innovation Center (2410 Main Ave., on the Durango High School campus).
