Katie petitioned for candidacy in an open election for the seat, but due to a late vacancy in the district, had to pursue an appointment instead. The appointment begins immediately and will go through November 2023.
In her letter of interest, Katie shared her experience and passion for non-profits, serving several foundations including the Durango Education Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado, St. Columba School, and most recently as President of the Park PTO (Parent Teacher Organization).
“I know how life-changing education can be,” says Katie. “It has been for my (5) children. It is our society’s greatest resource. We owe it to our children to not only preserve public education, but to make it better and more equitable. I am ready to collaborate with fellow board members, 9-R administration and staff, community stakeholders, DEA and DESPA to find the best path forward while keeping the best interests of our children and educators in mind.”
Katie begins her appointment starting at the next regularly scheduled board meeting, which is Tuesday, September 28, 2021 starting at 5:30 pm. Please visit our calendar on our website at durangoschools.org for more details on the upcoming meeting.
