Durango School District, along with all schools in Colorado and across the nation, are facing significant budget shortfalls next year and beyond. The state is anticipating needing to cut $4 billion dollars from next year’s budget, and this figure continues to grow. The district is hosting a virtual Public Budget Review Meeting on May 27th from 5-7 pm, and you are invited to learn more, provide feedback, or just to listen. Please mark your calendars now for this meeting, and watch for more communication and the link to this meeting in district communication.
McDonald's is offering teacher recognition this year for the outstanding effort at making learning engaging for students in this "Home-Based-Learning" model. This “Above and Beyond the Call” or ABC Award will be awarded to a teacher from each school in the district during the week of Memorial Day. Please nominate our fabulous Florida Mesa teachers by emailing Mr. Snowberger at DSnowberger@durangoschools.org. Include a brief explanation of the supports provided by your child’s teacher, and any pictures that can highlight this amazing work. Please put ABC Award in the subject. The district may use these nominations for other recognitions available in the district.
Beginning today, May 18th, Colorado’s PBS channel will broadcast reading and literacy learning opportunities every weekday morning for grades K-3rd. It sounds like this will continue throughout the summer and is a great opportunity to continue to engage your student in reading while continuing to be Safer at Home. You can find more information here.
