Dear Families,

We recognize that a positive, healthy school culture is one where students and families feel included in our school community.  We hope that you will get involved at Florida Mesa and communicate with your child’s teacher frequently. Consider becoming a member of our School Accountability Committee to learn more about Florida Mesa.  We also have a very active Parent Teacher Organization where you can make a difference by helping with school and community events, fundraisers, and other activities. We welcome volunteers to help in the teacher workroom, to read with our students, and with various other tasks.  If you aren’t able to make it in during the day, we hope you will join us during Open House/Ice Cream Social, Parent Teacher conferences, Harvest Carnival, music concerts, family math nights, and many more school functions.

Our classrooms are in full swing at Florida Mesa, and it’s likely that your student will need to be absent due to illness at some point.  Please call the school when your child will be absent, and know that we care about your child being at school, so we will call you if we haven’t heard from you. We want you to keep your sick kiddos at home so they can rest and be back to school quickly.  However, please be mindful about having your child miss school for other reasons that can be avoided. Students who miss an average of 10 days of school each year can end up missing more than half of a school year by the time they graduate from high school!  While our teachers try their best to catch students up when they are absent, chronic absenteeism and tardiness creates gaps in a student’s learning. Make it a goal to “Be here, every day. All Day. All The Way!”

If we haven’t had the opportunity to meet you yet, please introduce yourself!  If you have any questions or concerns, we want to hear from you. Florida Mesa is a community school and you are part of our community.  Let’s make it a great year!

Sincerely,

Shannon Morris, Principal
