Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to an awesome year of learning and growing, and are planning a Master Schedule that intentionally provides time and resources to ensure the success of ALL students in ALL content areas.   We are going to kick off our IC Blasts this year with some information that we hope you find helpful.  We will continue to send out information over the coming weeks, so please read all communication from Florida Mesa and Durango School District 9R.  If your contact information has changed, please call us to update at 970-247-4250.

  • STAFF UPDATES

We are excited to announce that we’ve had minimal changes in staffing for the upcoming year.  We had three staff members  (two teachers and one para) choose to move on to new adventures and we wish them the very best.  We are thrilled to welcome Ian Hanigan as our new 2nd grade teacher and Denise Tulley as our new preschool teacher.  In addition, we are in the hiring process to fill one special education instructional paraeducator position.   The rest of the Mustang staff is returning and ready to welcome your kiddos back to Florida Mesa!

  • 9-R COVID-19 Guidelines for the 21-22 School Year-Community Survey and Feedback Session

We would like to invite everyone to provide input about the COVID-19 guidelines that you support for the upcoming school year.  For more information, visit the district’s website.  Feel free to provide your input by completing the Survey by Monday, August 2nd at 5pm, attending the Feedback Session on August 3rd at the Durango High School Auditorium at 5:30pm, or both!

  • FALL CHECK IN-Wednesday, August 4th, 8am-2pm

The Fall Check In is an opportunity to register your students if they are new to Florida Mesa, including incoming kindergarten students.  If you have not confirmed your returning student’s enrollment for the upcoming school year, you can also do that at Fall Check In.  In addition, if you have paperwork, immunization records, birth certificates, etc… you can bring them to the Fall Check In and we can make copies for you.  You may also complete new student registration and returning student enrollment forms online.

  • SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Most school supplies that have been required in the past for each student to bring will now be purchased by the district at the elementary level.  We are asking each student to come to school with a backpack, water bottle with their name on it, and a lunchbox if they will not be eating lunch in our cafeteria.  There may be a couple of additional items that we will be asking families to provide, however the cost will not exceed $10 per student.  We will let you know as soon as we have finalized the details of this new practice and communicate if there are any items beyond those mentioned above that will be needed.

  • SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES WANTED FOR DISTRICT C

Mick Souder currently serves as our school board representative for District C, which encompasses Florida Mesa Elementary.  Mr. Souder will not be running for re-election, therefore his seat is available for a four year term. We thank Mr. Souder for his service to our school community-he was a great representative!

A person who desires to be a candidate for school board must file a nomination petition signed by 50 eligible electors.  For the 2021 election, nomination petitions can be circulated beginning August 4, 2021.  The nomination petition must be filed with the designated election official or the school district no later than August 27, 2021.  We would like to encourage you to consider this opportunity as a great way to advocate for Florida Mesa Elementary and our entire school community.  There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested on August 5th. For more information and access to the required forms, please read more….
